Meanwhile, in a boost for two-way tourism between the regions, Jetstar will resume its seasonal Cairns-Newcastle flights, offering over 18,000 seats on the route in 2025.

The resumed service will operate from 2 July to 24 October next year, with three flights per week on the carrier’s A320 aircraft.

According to Jetstar, the relaunch follows strong demand during previous seasons.

“These are the only direct flights between Cairns and Newcastle, allowing customers in the south to escape up to tropical weather in winter, while giving residents of Far North Queensland easy access to the Hunter Valley wine region,” Jetstar Executive Manager, Customer, Jenn Armor said.

“To celebrate the relaunch of this popular seasonal service, we’re offering one-way fares between the two destinations from just $109.

“We thank Newcastle Airport for supporting the route, allowing our customers to take off more with low fares.”

Dr Peter Cock, CEO of Newcastle Airport, said travellers could expect more new routes to follow from the airport.

“We are working hard to provide the people of the Hunter with more travel options and are proud this popular route with Jetstar is one of the first to be announced,” he said.
