It has been a tough few days in the travel industry given the Thomas Cook and Tempo and Bentours closures, so we’re here with some good news to leave you with warm fuzzy feelings in your heart.

Staff onboard one of the last ever Thomas Cook flights were left devastated after being informed of the companies collapse mid-flight, leaving them unpaid and unemployed.

Shocked by the heartbreaking news, one Scottish woman ‘passed a hat’ around, asking for £20 contributions from each passenger, as a token of appreciation to the pilots and the crew.

Cue happy tears.

A little bit of kindness goes a long way.

Karry On - Thomas Cook

As the Las Vegas to Manchester flight touched down on UK soil, the pilot announced over the tannoy “this is the end of our dream”.

He explained the situation to both passengers and staff; confirming they would not be getting paid for the month and they were left unemployed. He asked the passengers to thank the staff for their hard work during the flight.

According to the passengers, staff were very professional throughout the flight and extremely emotional after being applauded by their customers.

This lead one female passenger to stand up and ask passengers to donate what they could for the staff onboard the flight.

“Everyone was putting in their remaining dollars and I think there were two bags going around so it turned out to be a lot of the money.”

This small initiative snowballed into something beautiful, as the compassionate passengers dug into their wallets and raised £5000 ($9800) for the Thomas Cook staff.

“It got handed over at the end of the flight and staff came over the tannoy, they thanked us again for the support, and said how overwhelmed they were.”

As you could imagine, everyone was extremely moved by this kind gesture and the staff were incredibly grateful.

A similar collection happened for staff on a separate Thomas Cook flight from Orlando.

Faith in Humanity restored.
