Air India has revealed its suite of brand-new crew uniforms set to debut with the airline’s first Airbus A350 starting commercial service and part of the national carrier’s ambitious and wide-reaching rebrand.

Noted Indian fashion designer Manish Malhotra designed the cockpit and cabin uniforms, which include his signature ombré sarees and bandhgalas (suits) and the new Air India gold logo icon, ‘Vista’.

The collection blends Indian heritage with 21st-century style and comfort with all fabrics and garments sustainably sourced and tailored in India.

The new fits

The female cabin crew attire features a ready-to-wear ombré saree with intricate patterns reflecting Indian heritage architecture (jharokha) and the Vista paired with a blouse and blazer. The sarees can also be worn with pants, which provides greater flexibility to the female cabin crew.

The ombré sarees for the senior female cabin crew will be aubergine-to-burgundy paired with aubergine blazers, while the junior female cabin crew have red-to-purple sarees with red blazers.

The cockpit crew’s uniform features a classic, black double-breasted suit with a print inspired by the Vista with new uniforms for ground staff, engineers and security personnel to come.

This also marks the next step in Air India’s recently unveiled new global brand identity as the flag-bearer of a more confident, progressive and resurgent new India after revealing a new aircraft livery in August.

Air India CEO & Managing Director Campbell Wilson said: “We firmly believe that Manish Malhotra’s innovative ensemble will script an exciting new chapter for Air India’s future narrative.”
