Qantas Frequent Flyers now earn more points overseas

Qantas has adjusted its loyalty scheme in order to make it easier for Frequent Flyers to earn even more Points while travelling internationally.

Qantas has adjusted its loyalty scheme in order to make it easier for Frequent Flyers to earn even more Points while travelling internationally.

Revealed this week, the change will see Qantas Cash users earn 50 percent more Points than they did previously.

So instead of the previous dollar-for-dollar system, loyalty members will now earn 1.5 Points for every $1 spent overseas.

This means if the average Aussie spends $7,500 per holiday, then they’d receive 11,250 Qantas Points.

With 11,250 points Frequent Flyers can book a Economy Classic Flight Reward from Sydney to Melbourne.

The change to international spend comes ahead of Australia’s peak travel season (June-September), during which the airline says it sees a 50 percent increase in foreign currency spend on Qantas Cash cards compared to the other three months.

The top three destination Aussies use and earn their points include the US, UK and Italy. Last year, there was a leap in usage in Cuba as well as Qatar.

A Spokesperson for the Flying Kangaroo said that in addition to earning more points, Frequent Flyers who preload foreign currency onto their cards will receive access to better exchange rates.

“We want Frequent Flyers to know they can get great value using their Qantas Cash card. They have the flexibility to lock in their exchange rate before they go or simply load it with Australian dollars and use it worldwide.”

“With the peace of mind knowing they’ve separated their travel money from their everyday banking and the added convenience that it’s built into their QFF card, Qantas Cash can help make holiday spending less stressful for overseas travellers.”
