Move over Iggy Azalea because Qantas is the ‘new classic’ – the Australian airline is stepping back in time with ‘retro’ livery on its brand new aircraft.
Qantas’ new Boeing 737 features the original 1947 iconic flying Kangaroo and an ochre band around the window line of the aircraft. Ochre was a signature element of Qantas planes between 1971-1984 to reflect the outback where the carrier was established.
Revealed at a hanger in Seattle, group executive for brand, marketing and corporate affairs, Olivia Wirth said the retro livery was designed to celebrate the line’s 70-year history.
“It’s a bit of a time warp having a 1970s livery on one of our brand new B737 aircraft but it’s the perfect way to highlight the years of experience behind the contemporary airline Qantas is today,’ she said.
Also at the big reveal was Qantas ambassador and actor, John Travolta.
He said the artwork was a great tribute to the airline’s history and brand heritage.
“I feel a great sense of pride just looking at this aircraft here today. Australia is lucky to have an airline like Qantas as its national carrier,”
John Travolta, Qantas Ambassador
The Boeing 737 will be used on all Qantas domestic flights from 20 November.
