The Singapore Airlines offshoot officially took delivery of the 787 named ‘Dream Start’ on Tuesday last week and sent her off on her first commercial flight on Friday from Singapore to Perth.

She is the first of 20 787s the aircraft plans to fly over the coming years.

The plane arrived in Perth late last week.

Dream Start touched down at Perth Airport at 6.15pm and was welcomed with a traditional water cannon salute.

Officials from Perth Airport and Tourism Western Australia were among the welcome party to receive Dream Start and its guests from Singapore.

“The entry into commercial service of Scoot’s 787 Dreamliner is the culmination of many years of preparation. It is an historic occasion for Scoot, and it is wonderful to be welcomed with such enthusiasm by the city of Perth.”

Campbell Wilson, Scoot chief executive

Mr Campbell added that the 787 is a game changer for the airline, because they not only triple the airline’s fleet size, but will also allow the carrier to fly to new destinations and introduce more frequencies on popular routes.

In addition to Perth, Scoot’s 787 will be deployed to Hong Kong from today. All other Scoot destinations will progressively convert to 787 between now and August 2015, at which point Scoot will become the first airline in the world to operate an all-787 fleet.

Dream Start has 340 economy seats and 34 business class seats.

In economy, the newly designed seats are in a 3-3-3 configuration and each has its own seat power.

The backs of chairs have a slim line to offer passengers extra leg room.

Of course, the airline hasn’t forgetten to include its popular Child Free Cabin, situated right at the front of economy.

Business Class seats are finished in leather and set in a 2-3-2 configuration.

The seats themselves recline and have an extendable footrest. Although the chairs recline significantly, they are not fully lie back seats.

Every business class seat has in-seat power for recharging mobile devices.

The aircraft also has larger windows to give passengers a better view as they take off and touch down. There are also larger overhead luggage bins.
