Sports fans can now cheer on their fave team aboard Air New Zealand flights with the introduction of live sport via the Sport 24 channel, broadcasting the likes of the upcoming Rugby World Cup plus NRL, AFL and Premier League matches from 30 August 2023.
Air NZ will progressively roll out the live TV trial across its widebody fleet with 11 of the carrier’s 787 and 777 aircraft to be set up for the start of the Rugby World Cup.
The remaining seven aircraft will be equipped to show live sport by the RWC final on 14 October 2023.
While too late for the recent FIFA Women’s World Cup hosted by Aotearoa and Australia, the Sport 24 channel, available from Panasonic Avionics, will broadcast the Rugby World Cup, Premier League, US Open, NRL, AFL, NFL and more.
With live sport, passengers will be across every minute of the match – keeping within the ‘official onboard guidelines and etiquette’.
Air New Zealand Chief Customer & Sales Officer Leanne Geraghty said the live TV launch gives passengers even more entertainment options.
“Just like most Kiwis, we’re crazy about rugby. Kicking off the roll-out of live sport means they can enjoy live rugby and support their team even while in the air,” she said.
“We know many of our customers are passionate sports supporters but there are a few guidelines we recommend, like staying onside in your seat and keeping neighbours in mind when celebrating.”
