Sky high vending machines could be coming to an aircraft near you

Getting hungry on a long-haul flight is not a good feeling. You know the only way you can get your hands on some snacks is to wait patiently for the food trolley to make its way to you. And in the world of instant gratification, that can really test your patience.

Getting hungry on a long-haul flight is not a good feeling. You know the only way you can get your hands on some snacks is to wait patiently for the food trolley to make its way to you. And in the world of instant gratification, that can really test your patience.

But imagine if your aircraft was fitted out with a kiosk of food glorious food and delicious drinks that you could access whenever you wanted.

Drool. We’re all for it.

So could this seemingly simple, but also kind of genius, idea become a reality? It’s definitely being floated.

At the recent Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg aircraft interior designers, Bucher Aerospace revealed a new food kiosk dubbed The Innovation Galley.

The idea is that whenever passengers get peckish they can simply wander up for peanuts or a soft drink without having to call on a flight attendant.

But wait, there’s more. The Innovation Galley can also be transformed to display and dispense duty-free items.

So basically there is a removable side wall panel that allows airline staff to swap food and drink for perfume and watches.

Bucher Aerospace said the energy and space efficient solution would “significantly reduce the cost of an airlines’ catering process”
