When a sniffer dog alerted US Customs and Border Protection Agents to an unusual odour wafting from a passengers luggage, no one could have predicted what they were about to uncover.
Staff at Atlanta International Airport were in disbelief when inside the checked luggage they found A ROASTED PIG’S HEAD looking back at them.
Agents seized and destroyed the pig, which weighed almost nearly a kilogram.
The dog who found the rogue head is a six-year-old rescue beagle called Hardy who has worked with US Customs and Border Protection since 2015.
CBP Area Port Director for the Port of Atlanta Carey Davis told media that dogs like Hardy are the best defense against destructive pests and animal diseases from entering the United States.
“This seizure at ATL illustrates the tremendous expertise of our four-legged K-9 partners in protecting the United States,” he said.
Awwwww.
Did you know beagles are considered the best breed for sniffing out products at the airport because they have a strong sense of smell, they’re not very big and they have a gentle disposition with the public?
Now back to that pig’s head. Seriously. Why was someone travelling it? The US has strict laws against pork and pork products from other continents to prevent the introduction of diseases like foot and mouth disease and swine fever.
Lucky Hardy saved the day.
