Emirates and Boeing have partnered up and launched one of the biggest aerial filming projects EVER using drones. And we think it will be a game changer for destination marketing.

The project is called “View from above” – click here to be taken to the microsite, which is incredible! – and covers 18 destinations on five continents, including Sydney and Emirates’ hub in Dubai; check it out below:

Emirates is featuring the breathtaking films on its YouTube channel, which forms part of the airline’s comprehensive destination marketing campaign.

“The beautifully crafted films produced for this project not only feature destinations within our network in a stunning new light, but also utilise innovative technologies in creative ways to produce dramatic footage.”

Boutros Boutros, Divisional Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications, Marketing and Brand, Emirates

“Our aim is to always connect with our audiences around the world, and we hope that people are inspired by these unique films,” Boutros continued.

Jerry Verges, Vice President, Global Brand Marketing for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, describes the partnership with Emirates for this project as “a tremendously exciting venture.”

“The combination of technology, art and innovation to bring about these fabulous vignettes of Emirates’ destinations around the world is remarkable.”

Using unmanned aerial vehicles – aka drones – allowed the team behind the project to film locations that would have otherwise been difficult to get to with more traditional aircraft – such as inside deep caves and under jungle foliage.

The manoeuvrability of the drones also meant that it could get into tight spaces. For example, check out this Japan clip, where a drone was able to fly between cherry blossom trees and over a waterfall:

All in all, the aerial capabilities of the drones allowed the project team to produce previously unseen aerial imagery and perspectives – how cool is that!

It’s not the first time drones have made it into travel news, with a passenger-carrying drone unveiled at a Vegas trade show recently.
