According to Etihad’s Chief Executive, Sydney is one of the “busiest and best performing long-haul routes” with demand increasing over the last decade.

Peter Baumgartner said he expects numbers for the service to continue growing over the coming years, which is why the airline recently decided to operate a second daily A380 service to the city.

With the additional jumbo jet, all 14 Sydney-Abu Dhabi services will be served by the carrier’s flagship aircraft from 29 October. This will benefit travellers by adding extra capacity and giving them more access to premium cabins such as The Residence, First Apartments and Business Studios.

Sydney Airport’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Kerrie Mather, welcomed the airline’s decision, saying it will make the gateway the fourth largest A380 hub in the world.

“We’re delighted that Etihad is now an all-A380 operation at Sydney Airport and look forward to the continued success of this popular route, served by a high quality aircraft that is redefining the travel experience.”
