BNE is back to business with 3.3M pax in December & January

As Queensland schools returned last week, Brisbane Airport (BNE) recorded more than three million travellers during December 2022 and January 2023, more than double the pax during the previous holiday period.

As Queensland schools returned last week, Brisbane Airport (BNE) recorded more than three million travellers during December 2022 and January 2023, more than double the pax during the previous holiday period.

A whopping 3.3 million travellers passed through BNE’s international and domestic terminals in December 2022 – January 2023 against 1.425 passengers in December 2021 – January 2022.

BNE had 14,500 passengers through its International Terminal on 7 January alone.

This represents 87 per cent of pre-COVID domestic travel levels and 62 per cent recovery in international travel to date.

BNE got into the Christmas spirit with dedicated activities and entertainment as crowds returned to travel over the festive season.

Brisbane Airport Corporation Head of Public Affairs Stephen Beckett said the festive period delivered more than $3 billion to Queensland tourism operators and the visitor economy.

“When Brisbane Airport is busy, Queensland is busy,” he added.

Back to business travel

This week sees BNE return to busy mornings as corporate high-flyers and FIFO workers replace local and interstate tourists.

Monday mornings are the busiest time of the week for domestic departures, followed by Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

More than 47,000 people moved through the Domestic Terminal on Monday as business travellers returned with 3,849 pax departing between 6am and 7am yesterday.
