Queenslanders, get ready for more choice for flights to one of the world’s most exciting cities – Hong Kong. HK-based Cathay Pacific will increase flights between Brisbane and Hong Kong from 10 flights per week to 12, commencing 30 March 2025.
While the increase seems a modest one, it takes Cathay’s capacity between the Queensland capital and HK to higher than pre-Covid levels.
It also marks a doubling of CX services out of Brisbane in just over six months (since June 2024).
And according to Brisbane Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff, that’s great news for tourism and cargo.
“This is great news to kick off the year because it not only caters to the growing number of tourists visiting Brisbane but also enhances our local export capabilities,” he told Karryon.

“This expansion also takes Cathay Pacific beyond the 11 flights it had prior to the pandemic.
“We thank the Queensland Government, through its Attracting Aviation Investment Fund, for playing a role in this expansion.
“This year marks 43 years since the first Cathay Pacific 747 arrived in Brisbane, establishing a crucial link to one of the world’s most important financial centres.
“We look forward to continuing this strong partnership and welcoming even more visitors and business opportunities to our region.”
Reservations for the new flights are now open.

“Australia remains a very important market for us, where we currently fly more than 70 return flights per week from five cities – Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney,” Cathay Pacific Regional General Manager Southwest Pacific Frosti Lau said in a statement to Karryon.
“In response to customer demand, Cathay Pacific is delighted to provide more options for our Australian customers travelling to Hong Kong and beyond.”
Along with the expanded Brisbane flights, Cathay will return to full capacity in Perth from 30 March.
“In Perth, we have continued to see support and demand for our flights. As a result, we have opened all remaining flight slots for the city, bringing the total to 11 return flights per week,” Lau said, also flagging CX’s 55th anniversary of flying to Western Australia this year.

In December, Cathay Pacific’s highly anticipated seasonal service between Cairns and Hong Kong officially launched, marking an important step in reconnecting Tropical North Queensland to one of Asia’s major aviation hubs.
In October, the carrier also revealed its new business class, called ‘Aria Suite’, along with refreshed premium economy and economy cabins on its retrofitted Boeing 777-300ERs.
