Cheers to that! World’s first 'winery airline' set to launch in January

Labelling itself the “world’s first winery airline”, Invivo Air will take off for the first time on 31 January.

Labelling itself the “world’s first winery airline”, Invivo Air will take off for the first time on 31 January.

Invivo Air, which is a product of New Zealand winery Invivo, promises “a unique experience for wine lovers” on its inaugural flight between Auckland and Queenstown.

Departing Auckland Airport at midday, travellers will experience an “eight-step wine-tasting at 18,000 feet” with Invivo co-founders Tim Lightbourne and Rob Cameron on board the airline’s Air Saab 340 plane. And they’ll be hoping for a smooth flight with few drips, no doubt.

Guests of the first wine/flight experience of its kind will also enjoy a paired selection of Kiwi snacks with tasting pours from the full Invivo range including Invivo, Graham Norton wines and Invivo X, SJP wines.

Invivo will also offer low and zero-alcohol options on the flight along with onboard entertainment featuring a playlist compiled by Cameron, who is a member of New Zealand band Razorback Road.

After landing at one of the world’s most beautiful airports in Queenstown, Invivo Air will whisk guests to one of Invivo’s oldest vineyards in Central Otago, Legend’s Terrace, for a tour and tasting, followed by a bespoke four-course dinner (including Bluff oysters paired with Invivo wines, of course) in an exclusive space at Botswana Butchery in central Queenstown.

The first wine/flight experience will include an overnight stay at the Hilton Queenstown Resort & Spa on Lake Wakatipu.

First flight sold out

According to NZ’s Stuff, tickets for the experience cost NZ$1,149 per person.

Invivo Air’s inaugural flight is also sold out.

“We’re thrilled to open Invivo Air to the public and deliver a truly unique experience for those that come on board,” said Cameron.

“We’ll be tasting some stunning drops in some truly epic locations.”

Known for its award-winning Sauvignon Blanc, Rose and Pinot Noir, Invivo has also collaborated on wines with Sarah Jessica Parker and Graham Norton.
