Sydney-based event management company, Funktionality showed off their party throwing skills this month with an epic, almost enviable 15th birthday.
Utilising the theme ‘Expect the Unexpected’ – some 160 exclusive guests were truly surprised when they rocked up to the company’s basic Marrickville warehouse to find it completely transformed to reflect an urban edgy laneway feel with top DJs, catered foods, breweries and more.
Production company, NW Group, illuminated the pathway leading up to the warehouse. Huge cauldrons of fire from Foti Fireworks provided some much-needed warmth on the cold July night, complementing the aroma of spit-roasted pig in the laneway air.
Security guards from iSecure were recruited to man the doors, while exclusive guests enjoyed local flavours at Studio Neon’s food station.
The party continued upstairs with cocktails mixed by the professional bar staff at Clifford Wallace. For the winos there was a selection from Endless Wines and Cider plus hand-crafted beer from Batch Brewing Company.
A number of DJs kept guests on their feet until 3.00am, including DJ Chester and DJ Rodd Richards who was accompanied by vocals from The Voice’s Arrnott Olssen.
As the clock struck midnight, the final surprise was revealed to the crowd – an incredible performance by The Replicants, a troupe of genetically engineered organic robots, wearing ultra-bright illuminated costuming and performing with state of the art Graphic Poi visuals.
This act left guests awe-struck and abuzz the remainder of the night as DJs Kate Monroe (Sydney’s first lady of House) and Andrew Wowk (Chinese Laundry) took the stage.
Hashtag – wish we were there.
