Newly certified B Corp Aurora Expeditions welcomes its third small ship to the fleet with the Douglas Mawson due to start sailing in late 2025 on new itineraries to East Antarctica that pay homage to the namesake Aussie Antarctic explorer. Plus, pre-register by 18 April 2024 and save USD$2,000 per couple.
The Infinity Class ship’s inaugural season will see Aurora Expeditions return to East Antarctica for the first time in 15 years with new itineraries including Mawson’s Antarctica voyage, departing from Hobart.
The newest addition to Aurora’s purpose-built expedition fleet will carry around 154 passengers, joining sister ships Greg Mortimer and Sylvia Earle, also named after pioneers in their field.
Douglas Mawson will include the revolutionary Ulstein X-BOW ship shape, designed for smoother, faster ocean crossings and fuel efficiency, with 11 stateroom categories featuring Nordic interior design and most with private balconies.
For the first time, Aurora will offer several single-berth cabins aboard Douglas Mawson to cater for the growing solo traveller segment.
Public spaces on board include two restaurants and two bars, an outdoor heated swimming pool, a pool bar and Jacuzzis, a gym and sauna, relaxation and wellness areas, a library lounge, a citizen science centre and lecture theatre plus 360-degree observation decks.
Aurora Expeditions CEO Michael Heath said: “We’re thrilled to be launching the newest and final Infinity Class vessel, named in honour of pioneering Australian geologist and explorer Sir Douglas Mawson.”
“We are equally delighted to offer passengers new itineraries departing from Australia as part of the ship’s inaugural season, including an exploration of Mawson’s Antarctica, which will visit Mawson’s Huts at Cape Denison, Commonwealth Bay and New Zealand’s Subantarctic Islands.”
With the full itinerary lineup revealed soon, pre-register here for Douglas Mawson’s 2025-26 Antarctica season to save an additional USD$2,000 (around AUD$3,000) per couple until 18 April 2024.
