Cruisers to see the Dark Mofo side of cruising on P&O's new itinerary

Passengers will see the ‘darker’ side of cruising next year when P&O Cruises launches its first Dark Mofo cruise.

The inaugural cruise will depart Sydney on 13 June 2017 aboard Pacific Jewel and took all 2,000 guests on a three-day journey down to Hobart where they will enjoy Tasmania’s annual celebration of the dark.

Although in the past the cruise line has organised sports itineraries for major events such as the Melbourne Cup and Australian Open, this is the first ‘main event’ itinerary centered around art.

P&O Cruises’ President, Sture Myrmell, describes the cruise as ‘different’ and said it will be an opportunity for Aussies to cruise to one “Australia’s most talked about events”.

Once Jewel docks in Tasmania, guests will step off to see the art, food, music, light, film and oddities. As part of the cruise they will be given entry to Tasmania’s Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), a return ferry trip plus priority pass to the event’s City of Hobart Dark Mofo Winter Feast.

According to MOFO Creative Director, Leigh Carmichael, having a cruise ship bring thousands of people to the event allows organisers to try different things.
