Disney Cruise Line has been forced to delay its maiden voyage on Disney Wish and cancel 12 sailings out of Florida’s Port Canaveral due to construction delays at a shipyard in Germany.
Disney Cruise Line has announced that the first sailing of Disney Wish with passengers onboard will now be 14 July rather than 9 June, due to construction delays amidst the Omicron surge in Germany.
Consequently, 12 cruises aboard the Disney Wish have been cancelled between 9 June and 18 July.
“We know how much our guests are looking forward to sailing on the Disney Wish, and we understand the disappointment and inconvenience this will cause,” Thomas Mazloum, president of Disney Cruise Line, said in the statement.
“We treasure the relationship we have with those who sail and make memories with us, and we will work closely with those affected to welcome them aboard in the future.”
Disney said affected passengers could choose to receive a full refund on their cruise or a 50% discount on a future cruise that sails before 31 December 2023, plus a refund of the difference.
“Despite this unavoidable adjustment to our plans, our team at Disney Cruise Line has never been more optimistic about the future, and cannot wait to welcome families aboard the magnificent Disney Wish,” Mazloum said.
Encapsulating ‘enchantment’ and “weaving imagination, emotion and adventure” into its design, Disney Wish is the fifth ship in the Disney Cruise line fleet.
Inspired by nearly a century of Disney fairytales, the idea of a Castle on the Sea stems from the most famous feature of the Disney parks, the fairytale castles, emulating the classic storybook charm at the core of many enchanted tales.
Disney Wish will also be home to a plethora of other captivating stories from its collection including Star Wars, Disney and Pixar and Marvel.
