Disney Cruise Line has officially unveiled its latest vessel, Disney Treasure, at a waterfront christening on the Hudson River in New York City.
Celebrating DCL’s sixth ship, the event combined Disney’s signature storytelling with cutting-edge technology – with a touch of star power thrown in.
The ceremony’s major feature saw a massive drone light show light up the night sky, celebrating iconic Disney stories like Aladdin, Moana and Coco.
The show featured 1,000 synchronised drones, set to a medley of beloved Disney songs, and culminated with a 65-foot-tall champagne bottle lighting the sky in a burst of pyrotechnics.
Award-winning singer-songwriter Jordin Sparks added to the spectacle with a live performance of “Live the Adventure,” the ship’s original anthem.
The event ended with a blessing from representatives across The Walt Disney Company.
“For more than 100 years, Disney stories have filled the world with joy and wonder, capturing the hearts and imaginations of generations across every continent. And since the launch of the Disney Cruise Line in 1998, our ships have become brand ambassadors that bring our world-class storytelling and the immersive nature of our theme parks to new audiences in new places all over the world,” The Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger said.
“We also know that at the heart of everything we do at Disney are the dedicated cast members and employees who create the magic that brings joy to millions of people around the globe, and we are proud to honor our employees as the official godparents of the Disney Treasure.”
According to the cruise line, the Disney Treasure, sister ship to the Disney Wish and Disney Destiny, embodies a spirit of adventure through new experiences and fan-favourite features.
Guests can enjoy a Broadway-style Moana show, Pixar- and Marvel-inspired dining, water attractions, fireworks at sea and Disney Parks-themed lounges, including one inspired by the Haunted Mansion.
The ship begins its maiden voyage on 21 December, with seven-night Caribbean itineraries from Port Canaveral.
13 ships by 2031
The Disney Treasure is part of Disney Cruise Line’s ambitious fleet expansion, with seven more ships planned by 2031.
“This is an unprecedented era of growth for Disney Experiences, and a dramatic period of expansion at Disney Cruise Line,” Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro said.
“We are more than doubling our fleet to 13 ships by 2031 so that we can bring Disney cruise vacations to even more families across the globe.
“With the Disney Treasure, we continue to deliver an unparalleled family vacation at sea through the magic of Disney storytelling. The memories our guests create onboard this stunning ship will last a lifetime.”
