Drew Barrymore takes the helm: Her latest starring role with MSC Cruises revealed

Hollywood actor and The Drew Barrymore Show host Drew Barrymore has been named Godmother of MSC Cruises’ new US flagship MSC World America. Hollywood actor and The Drew Barrymore Show host Drew Barrymore has been named Godmother of MSC Cruises’ new US flagship MSC World America. The popular star will officially name the new ship in Miami on 9 April 2025 before MSC World America sets sail for the cruise line’s private island, Ocean Cay in the Bahamas.

Barrymore debuted with MSC Cruises, co-starring with actor Orlando Bloom in the cruise line’s Big Game ‘Let’s Holiday’ commercial and national brand campaign, and will build on that relationship as Godmother for its 23rd ship.

She will cut the ribbon and trigger the traditional breaking of a bottle of Champagne on MSC World America – one of this year’s most anticipated ships – alongside Orlando Bloom at the new MSC Miami Cruise Terminal, which will be the largest in the world.

“When MSC Cruises asked me to be the Godmother of MSC World America, I immediately said yes!” Barrymore said.

“I absolutely love to travel – it fuels my soul – and being part of something that helps people set off on incredible adventures is just amazing.

“There’s something so magical about cruises; they let you discover the world in this really fun, unexpected way. And to be able to name MSC World America and send the ship off with well wishes and good luck is such an honour,” she said.

MSC Cruises USA EVP of Marketing, eCommerce & Sales Suzanne Salas said the cruise line is thrilled to continue to partner with Barrymore for this campaign.

“Drew is the perfect Godmother for MSC World America. She embodies our brand perfectly with her exquisite style and grace and her passion for the comfort and adventure we find through travel,” she said.

MSC Cruises’ third LNG-powered ship, MSC World America will feature seven distinct districts; 19 dining venues, including the only Eataly at sea; 18 bars and lounges; the all-new Harbour outdoor venue for families, the three-level Galleria, the largest MSC Yacht Club in the Caribbean and the World Promenade, which has one of the longest dry slides at sea.

After the gala ceremony, MSC World America will depart on a celebratory three-night sailing to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, which Barrymore and Bloom are seen visiting in the ‘Let’s Holiday’ campaign.

While docked at Ocean Cay, the MSC Foundation will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new Marine Conservation Centre, which will serve as a hub for scientists and students involved in the Foundation’s Super Coral Program and will be accessible to cruise guests.
