Norwegian Cruise Line's new ship breaks Facebook

Norwegian Cruise Line's Facebook fans were so excited about the delivery of the line's newest ship Norwegian Escape that they practically broke Facebook this morning.

Norwegian Cruise Line‘s Facebook fans were so excited about the delivery of the line’s newest ship Norwegian Escape that they practically broke Facebook this morning.

The cruise line took delivery of the 164,600 gross tonne ship – the largest in the line’s fleet – overnight following a building period of 17 months.

As the company’s first ship in the new Breakaway Plus Class – featuring advanced technology, new dining rooms and extra entertainment – Escape has gained a large following amongst cruisers.

This was amplified a few weeks ago, when Norwegian revealed rapper and Latin Grammy-award winner, Pitbull, as Godfather of the new vessel.

So when the cruise line posted ‘Breaking News’ about Escape leaving the shipyard and sailing towards Florida, fans went wild on Facebook liking, posting and commenting on the company’s page.

In fact, there was so much enthusiasm that a few fans had trouble getting their comments published.

One fan contacted KarryOn, saying every attempt at posting on the line’s page was blocked because of high activity. KarryOn attempted a post and experienced the same issue.

Pitbull will be Godfather to the new ship.

However, Norwegian didn’t ‘break’ Facebook for too long, because the issue now appears to be resolved.

Andy Stuart, Norwegian Cruise Line’s President and CEO, said Escape’s arrival marks a ‘true evolution’ for the cruise line and takes its position of ‘freedom and flexibility’ in cruising to the next level.

Norwegian Escape is the newest and most advanced cruise vessel on the seas and we are proud of the team that worked diligently to design and build her.”

Norwegian Escape has a maximum passenger capacity of 4,200 passengers – 100 more than Norwegian’s former largest vessel, Norwegian Epic, and around 1,000 less than the world’s largest ship, Allure of the Seas.

Onboard she has the largest aqua park at sea featuring four water slides. She also has The Waterfront – a wraparound oceanfront promenade with a series of retail stores and dining venues like Moderno Churrascaria, Cagney’s Steakhouse and 5 O’Clock Somewhere Bar.

Norwegian Escape is scheduled to arrive in Florida for her christening on 9 November. She will be followed by a second Breakaway Plus Class vessel in 2017.
