South Sea Cruises Group (SSCG), a leading Fiji marine tour operator, has acquired Tivua Island from Captain Cook Cruises Management.
Under the terms, Captain Cook Cruises will continue to operate on Tivua Island until 31 May 2025 including the continuation of its Tivua Island Day Sail Experience.
SSCG will then close the island to undertake a major redevelopment and transform it with the intention of creating Fiji’s newest day trip destination, offering a world class customer experience.
The redevelopment and reopening of Tivua Island is set to complement the unprecedented surge in hotel and resort projects currently underway in Fiji’s greater Nadi and Denarau area by offering an increase in the number of quality experiences available to the islands.
SSCG says that international guests staying in these hotels and resorts aspire to explore the islands through one or more day trips – and that a redeveloped Tivua Island will cater to this demand.
Guests will be able to explore the natural beauty of one of Fiji’s best beaches and extensive coral gardens amid the upgraded on-island facilities.
Further plans about the redevelopment of Tivua Island will be shared by SSCG in coming months. It aims for an island reopening date in 2026.
The current SSCG portfolio includes Fiji’s two most visited day trip destinations, South Sea Island and Malamala Beach Club, as well as the Sabre by South Sea Sailing. In April 2025, SSCG is set to launch a fast-boat experience under the South Sea Cats brand.
SSCG also operates Blue Lagoon Cruises, Fiji’s only locally owned and operated small-ship cruising product, and provides accommodation packages and hop-on/hop-off travel passes through its Awesome Adventures Fiji brand.
Additionally, SSCG operates resort transfers and day trips to nearly all Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands as part of its comprehensive array of South Sea Cruises products and services.
