Viking Yi Dun has completed an inaugural voyage from Shanghai to Hong Kong (Shenzen), marking the cruise line’s historic return to China with new domestic ocean itineraries after running Yangtze River cruises for 15 years.
Viking’s new itineraries include a domestic sailing along China’s coast, highlighting rarely visited destinations and ports that have never been offered to international visitors.
The new ocean itineraries operate from September to November on the 930-guest Viking Yi Dun (formerly the Viking Sun) – specifically for domestic China itineraries.

Viking also recently announced an expanded Asia program in 2025, including the new 15-day Jewels of Japan & China and 20-day Classic China Discovery cruises.
It will also introduce the following 22-day itineraries in 2025: Pearls of Japan & China, Gems of China & Japan, 2025 Wonders of China and 2025 Best of China.

The new China program launch was commemorated in Shanghai with guests treated to cultural performances, both shoreside and on board the ship.
Given the historic nature of the inaugural voyage, the Viking Yi Dun was also welcomed to port with fanfare from local partners and residents in Zhoushan, Dongtou, Pingtan, Xiamen and Shenzhen.
What Viking China’s inaugural cruisers had to say

At the end of the voyage, Viking Yi Dun guests provided enthusiastic feedback about their time in China, reflecting on the ease and discovery of cruising with Viking.
“I’ve always been fascinated with China,” guest Donald M said. “It’s so easy to see a lot of interesting areas and places because [Viking] makes it so easy for you. All the experiences we’ve had have been wonderful.”
Fellow cruiser Cheryl W. agreed: “To be able to have admission into this country that you hear so much about and see so many treasures and interact with people, in a guided way…it’s been extraordinary in every way.”
