Demand for hiking 'off the charts' as Larapinta Trail sells out

After a "horror season" in 2020, World Expeditions says it's now struggling to keep up with an exceptionally high demand on its range of Larapinta Trail walks this year.

After a “horror season” in 2020, World Expeditions says it’s now struggling to keep up with an exceptionally high demand on its range of Larapinta Trail walks this year.

World Expeditions has reported its Larapinta pre-season has been the busiest ever, with a record number of walkers set to walk the NT’s iconic Larapinta Trail in coming months.

According to World Expeditions’ Domestic Manager, Michael Buggy, many clients have been waiting almost a year for the chance to walk the trail, after border restrictions forced the cancellation of all but 15 departures last year.

“COVID-19 destroyed the season last year, with constantly changing border restrictions wreaking havoc on peoples’ plans to travel,” Mr Buggy said. “This year, we are hopeful of a bumper season, with few or no disruptions.”

“A lot of people have the Larapinta on their bucket list and the inability to travel overseas has prompted them to push it to the top of their travel wishlist.”

“The fact that we’re upgrading all single travellers to a private safari-style tent at no additional cost is further driving demand,” Mr Buggy said.

World Expeditions has increased the number of departures to meet the huge demand but say it’s still having to turn people away because each trip is capped at a maximum of 16 walkers.

The lucky walkers who have their trips already confirmed are in for a real treat, as high levels of recent rainfall have brought out stunning wildflower displays; the trail is being transformed from red to green, with birds and wildlife flocking to the trail in greater numbers too.

One of the Great Walks of Australia, World Expeditions says its 6 day, pack-free Classic Larapinta trek in Comfort is the only Larapinta Trail experience that provides walkers with exclusive access to the facilities of award-winning eco campsites, with luxuries such as hot showers, access to comfortable lounge areas, an indigenous food experience and private accommodation in safari-style tents, with comfortable, off-ground beds.

World Expeditions operates 10 itineraries on the Larapinta Trail, through its domestic brand, Australian Walking Holidays, including the Classic Larapinta trek in Comfort

Other Larapinta walks include the Larapinta Goddess Walk, the Larapinta Trek Family Adventure, a Women’s Classic Larapinta Trek in Comfort, the Larapinta Challenger Trek and a new for 2021 Larapinta, Kings Canyon & Uluru in Comfort.
