Aussies & Kiwis tackle for last minute flights to the RWC

Trans-Tasman competition isn't just heating up in aviation, it's set to reach all new levels on Sunday when the Wallabies and All Blacks meet on the football field.

Trans-Tasman competition isn’t just heating up in aviation, it’s set to reach all new levels on Sunday when the Wallabies and All Blacks meet on the football field.

The two teams knocked out their opponents over the weekend to win a spot in the finals at this year’s Rugby World Cup (RWC).

Stepping on the field on Sunday at 3.00am (AEST), the game has been dubbed by several sports websites as a ‘historic’ one, with the All Blacks defending their World Cup title, while the Wallabies fight to take home the Webb Ellis trophy for the first time since 1999.

Aside from igniting some healthy Tasman competition, the final game has spurred some last minute interest from rugby ‘Stans’ keen to watch the epic battle live in England.

Last week, Cheapflights reported a surge in searches for London, which coincided with the weekend’s semi-finals.

Since the Wallabies advanced to the semis, Cheapflights recorded a 27 percent increase in searches by Australian users looking for flights to reach London in time for the match against Argentina on 25 October.

In New Zealand, there was a 19 percent lift in searches for the All Black’s game against Sotuh Africa’s Springboks.

These figures are expected to climb this week, with more Kiwis and Aussies keen to watch the final showdown.

KarryOn did the math and fans keen to arrive in-time for the final will need to leave Australia or New Zealand by latest Friday evening. This will give them enough time to arrive in London by early Sunday morning and ahead of the afternoon game.

Through CheapFlights, the return flight (departing Australia Friday evening and returning Monday morning) will cost a Sydneysider around $1,942 per person.

Those departing from Auckland are looking at around $2,390 per person.
