Aussies hop across the Tasman for Easter

Aussies are ditching their family and friends over the holiday period to hop across the Tasman for a quick Easter getaway.

Aussies are ditching their family and friends over the holiday period to hop across the Tasman for a quick Easter getaway.

The trend was confirmed by two different sources – Topdeck AND Skyscanner.

According to Topdeck research, bookings to New Zealand are up by 39 percent compared to the same period last year.

Auckland is the top city choice for Aussies, and even made the top five most searched destinations for the four-day weekend on Skyscanner.

Topdeck General Manager for Asia Pacific, Joe Ponte, described New Zealand as an attractive market for Australian holidaymakers looking to make the most of their public holidays.

“Aussies are becoming more savvy when planning their trips over specified breaks – it’s the perfect way to explore the fjordscapes and ancient glaciers of our neighbouring country without breaking the leave bank.”

Emily Callahan, Senior Marketing Manager at Skyscanner for Australia and New Zealand, said it was “encouraging” to see Aussies venturing further afield for the holidays to cities outside of Australia.

“Aussie travellers heading for Kiwi soil can take a road trip and explore Waiheke Island where the International Jazz Festival is on.”
