Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport welcomed 7.8 million-plus passengers in 2023 with almost one million overseas travellers in May alone. Almost 110,000 Australian tourists landed at Denpasar in May 2023, making Aussies the most frequent international visitors to the island.

Ngurah Rai Immigration Office data showed 109,875 Australian tourists landed in Bali in May 2023 of a total of 947,506 international passengers, accounting for 11.5 per cent of travellers.

The May figures demonstrate high travel demand with the popular destination set to surpass tourism targets of 4.5 million international visitors in 2023.

This year’s data to date found almost 4.2 million travellers were on international routes to or from the Bali hub.

It’s great news for local tourism businesses and operators that have weathered challenges due to tourist crackdowns and location bans.

This negative view of the island, however, hasn’t deterred Aussie travellers from their fave holiday hotspot.

Despite policy changes, new tourist guidelines and a potential visa-on-arrival, the tourist influx shows Bali is open and welcoming visitors.

Airlines have introduced new routes or restarted services to Bali, including Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia, creating extra capacity.
