Incredible images have just been released that show a man leaning out of a shark dive cage to pat a great white on the nose. Luckily for him, he didn’t lose his arm.

One deep-sea diver took cage diving with great whites – real ones, not drones – to the next level recently just off the coast of Guadalupe Island in Mexico – a well-known breeding ground for the fearsome creatures.

Not merely content to get up close and personal with these predators of the sea, the daredevil (or should we say fool) along with his two scuba mates decided to pat a wild great white. The divers attracted the shark’s attention by teasing it with some bait.

The pictures were taken by Moscow native Dmitry Vasyanovich (47).

Great white sharks grow to around four or five metres and weigh up to two tonnes. They are the largest predatory fish on the planet.

Just last November, divers around Guadalupe Island captured footage of the largest ever great white ever recorded. Named “Deep Blue,” the 6-metre long shark was first filmed near Mexico’s Guadalupe Island in 2013 and featured on Discovery Channel show Jaws Strikes Back.

Shark diving with great whites is insanely popular in South Australia, and accounts for a sizeable portion of the local tourism industry.
