To celebrate International Day of Happiness today, Fijian locals will take over the Tourism Fiji Instagram account for 24 hours, posting 24 unfiltered and authentic moments from the 333-island archipelago where “happiness comes naturally”.
Tourism Fiji’s Shot of Happiness project takes a bold stand to reclaim what true happiness looks like on social media.
By showing the beauty of unedited images, Tourism Fiji hopes to encourage more moments of authentic happiness. The Shot of Happiness Project enlisted the community to capture everyday examples of true happiness.
Using disposable film cameras, locals were asked to take one shot of what makes them happy.
The result is a collection of images that tell visual stories full of the unfiltered joy that Fiji boasts.
Tourism Fiji CEO Brent Hill said: “In a world where happiness has been hijacked by filtered depictions of the emotion, Fiji remains where happiness is a way of life.”
“The Shot of Happiness Project shows that wherever you point the lens in Fiji, it captures how happiness comes simply, effortlessly, and abundantly.
“We’re proud to be leaning into our local community to shine a light on Fiji’s depiction of happiness. Year after year, Fijians have made a name for themselves as being some of the happiest across the globe.
“The world shouldn’t just take our word for it, they should come and experience the place where happiness comes naturally for themselves.”
Last year, Tourism Fiji was the first travel destination to join the BeReal app that promotes real-time, authentic and unfiltered representation of daily life.
