GREENLAND: Kayak across the water, trek across the snow & see Northern Lights across the sky

North, South, East or West – no matter which way you go, Greenland is a short flight from Europe but a world away in every other way.

North, South, East or West – no matter which way you go, Greenland is a short flight from Europe but a world away in every other way.

With land mass that equates to the same size as France, Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Italy & Austria put together – each part of Greenland will capture the heart and imagination of any traveller.

Here are some unique experiences you may find in Greenland:

1. Kayak the Arctic

Join the Aurora Expeditions West Greenland Explorer voyage and paddle within a safe distance between brash ice and icebergs of all shapes and sizes, or drift quietly and perhaps catch a glimpse of whales feeding in the area.

If you are lucky enough, you might even hear the ‘pop’ of an iceberg in the distance! Fun fact: the word Kayak originates from Greenland!

2. Seals and Foxes and Hares – oh my!

The rich wildlife is seen everywhere in the form of whales, eagles and many other birds, musk oxen, reindeer, seals and Arctic foxes.

3. ICE, ICE BABY

Ilulissat Icefjord is the northern hemisphere’s most productive iceberg nursery with the UNESCO site holding the mountains of ice calving from Jakobshavn Glacier every day.

The destination is also home to the country’s most comfortable walking routes and those joining West Greenland Explorer can stroll to the glacier, enjoy Zodiac cruises and kayak between the bergs sparkling in Disko Bay.

4. FOCUSING ON THE FJORDS

Folks fascinated by fjords will be right at home on Aurora Expeditions’ East Greenland Explorer with this voyage navigating the planet’s largest fjord system at Scoresbysund.

As well as being breathtakingly beautiful there’s the chance to see wildlife, with the remote region home to muskox, mountain hare, Arctic fox and whales.

5. THE ARCTIC FOR ACTIVITY

If you reckon Greenland is just for sedate sightseeing then think again.

Those exploring this corner of the Arctic can indulge in rock climbing, stand-up paddle boarding, snorkelling and scuba diving.

There’s ample activity included in East Greenland Explorer with adventurers able to appreciate Mother Nature’s show from some very different (and adrenalin-pumping) perspectives.

6. Soak in a natural hot spring

Ever wanted to bathe in a warm spa bath in the Arctic? How about in a spa with a view? Well, you’re in luck, South Greenland is home to the  Uunartoq hot springs.

Nestled between mountains, take your pick between two pools which sit at a balmy temperature of 38 degrees. Take your time to gaze out to the mountain peaks, or watch the icebergs floating by the nearby bay as you take in this incredible experience.

Join Aurora Expeditions’ Iceland, Greenland and East Canada voyage which visits Uunartoq.
