New York has taken out the title of The World’s Best City for 2019 in an annual Time Out survey, with 91% of residents beaming about the fact that “there’s always something to see or do” there.
The Big Apple scored kudos for its diversity, culture and unbeatable combination of excellent food and drink, culture, fun and entertainment.
To put the list together, Time Out surveyed over 30,000 people across 48 cities, as well as its network of local editors and experts.
Factors considered included: food and drink, culture, happiness and affordability.
Our dear Aussie city of Melbourne was the runner up, followed by Chicago, London and Los Angeles.
Melbourne ranked highly for happiness, creativity, eating and live music, with more live music venues per resident than any other city in the world.
Other takings from the survery inclulde Bangkok being named the world capital of feasting on your feet, with people there devouring more street food, visiting more food markets and picking up more takeaways than anywhere else (three times a week on average)!
No other city could surpass Madrid when it came to bars and going out (44 times a year). It’s also the least stressed city in the world which is probably no coincidence.
Parisians meet up with their friends most frequently, go out on a weeknight most (41 times a year) and go to the most art exhibitions, galleries and museums (23 times a year).
Parisians also have more sex on average than anyone else in the world (33 times a year).
