Vic linked: Aircalin relaunches non-stop Melbourne-Noumea flights

Victorians will soon have a non-stop link to New Caledonia after Aircalin announced it would resume flights between Melbourne and Noumea.

Commencing 8 December, Aircalin will operate the reestablished service three times per week on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.

Utilising its brand new Airbus A320Neo, Aircalin will offer premium economy and economy seating on the route.

According to the airline, the Neo jet boasts state-of-the-art seating, the latest LED HD touchscreen monitors (featuring 90-plus programmes), and a USB socket to charge electronic devices.

Passengers can also download a selection of magazines onto their own devices 48 hours prior to departure and for 24 hours after touching down. The full-service flights include 23kg of luggage (1 piece), meals and beverages.

Aircalin’s new A320Neo aircraft also reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions by up to 20 per cent per seat.

Additionally, flyers can now purchase domestic flights with Air Caledonie under an Aircalin flight number, meaning a Melbourne-Lifou or Melbourne-Isle of Pines flight, for instance, can be made on the same Aircalin booking and ticket.

Aircalin General Manager Australia Chris Thistlethwaite said, “Australia’s closest South Pacific neighbour, New Caledonia offers a plethora of activities and holiday options for Victorians and with a flight time of 3 hours and 35 minutes from Melbourne, you can even visit for a long weekend”.

High expectations

Melbourne Airport Chief Executive Officer Lorie Argus said MEL return was exciting news for Victorians.

“There is huge demand for flights to tropical holiday destinations and given Noumea’s relative proximity to Melbourne, we expect these services will prove very popular,” she said.

“With its idyllic scenery and unique blend of French and island cultures, New Caledonia has so much to offer, and Melbourne’s growing population means there is plenty of opportunity for growth.”

New Caledonia recently launched its ‘Get Closer to What You Love’ tourism brand campaign, targeting different types of Aussie and Kiwi holidaymakers.
