It’s finally time to stop dreaming about a French Polynesian holiday as it just got a lot easier for Australians to pack their bags and go, thanks to an easing of restrictions and an increase in flights via Auckland.
While The Islands of Tahiti have technically been open for Australians since mid-2021, the usual route via Auckland has remained closed and travellers have had to travel a much longer route via Hawaii or Los Angeles.
The recent announcement that Australians will be able to travel to New Zealand from April onwards means that the length of the journey to The Islands of Tahiti has been cut significantly shorter and a holiday in the destination is finally more of a reality for many Australians.
The national flag carrier Air Tahiti Nui has announced that flights will restart on 5 May and Air New Zealand has announced they are restarting flights to Papeete on 6 July 2022.
Due to the favourable development of the health situation, the State and local authorities have also decided to ease the conditions of entry into French Polynesia as of 28 March 2022.
As of 28 March, all travellers to French Polynesia are no longer required to:
- Register on the ETIS platform
- Complete a self-test upon arrival at Tahiti Faa’a Airport
- Complete additional self-tests (on D+2 and D+5 for non-vaccinated travellers with a compelling reason for travel)
It will still be mandatory to perform an antigen test (or RT-PCR) within 24 hours before departure to French Polynesia from Metropolitan France or abroad for all persons over 12 years old.
A strict control will be carried out by all airlines.
From April 17, fully jabbed international travellers, including Australians returning home from their overseas trip, will no longer require a negative PCR or RAT test result to board a flight to Australia, in a move that will make travel one more step closer to pre-pandemic travel days.
