Dare devil or a little too intoxicated? Which do you think was the motivation behind the Kiwi who jumped off the Venice’s Rialto Bridge and into a water taxi?

The 49-year-old New Zealander currently living in St Tropez in France was reportedly drunk when he decided to make the daring leap.

According to reports, the man was aiming to jump into the water, but instead landed on a boat.

Lucky for him, despite smashing into the vehicle’s windshield and injuring the driver, he’s still alive. On the less fortunate side, the fall didn’t come without consequence as he’s now in hospital being treated for “fractures and severe trauma”.

Police didn’t elaborate on the state of the man’s injuries, but confirmed he was “serious but stable” condition, The Telegraph reported.

Officials also said that a test has also been taken to confirm whether he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time, and that he can expect to face charges for endangering public transport once he’s recovered.

Venice’s Mayor, Luigi Brugnaro, didn’t take the incident too lightly, saying he would like badly behaved visitors to spend one night in prison.

“I insist on special powers to the city to uphold public order.”

“I insist on  Pickpockets, vandals, drunks! A night in the cells.”

Do you think tourists should be punished for this kind of behaviour?
