Out & About: NSW Government Is Giving Every Adult $100 To Spend

In a bid to get NSW residents out and about, having fun and spending in the sectors that need support, the NSW Government is gifting every adult $100 to spend on dining and entertainment.

The ‘Out and About’ voucher scheme will see every NSW resident over the age of 18 given four $25 vouchers through the Service NSW mobile app.

Two of the $25 vouchers can be used on food at restaurants, cafes, and clubs and the other two can be used for entertainment; including cultural institutions, performing arts, cinemas, and amusement parks.

The aim of the ‘Out and About’ voucher scheme is to keep the state economy flowing after Christmas and beyond.

What’s the deal?

The voucher scheme, set to run as a trial in the Sydney CBD over December, with a full rollout in early 2021, is expected to cost the Government $500 million.

However, the move is to reboot interstate tourism, help people support struggling business and contribute to COVID-19 recovery.

According to the ABC, the ‘Out and About’ vouchers cannot be used on retail, alcohol, gambling, or cigarettes and can be used only at COVID-safe businesses that sign on to the scheme.

In a deliberate bid to get people to spend more and return to a business, the vouchers also cannot be combined, such as using two $25 dining vouchers to make a single $50 transaction.

Which means more quality time (and more glasses of vino) with your friends/partner/family.

That’s gotta be a good thing, right?

Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said “the dining and entertainment industries were among the hardest hit by the pandemic and I would encourage people to utilise this scheme once it is up and running and to make sure they spend a bit extra on the way through, too.”

The Government will also look at limiting the use of the dining vouchers to less busy days such as Monday to Thursday to better manage COVID-19 restrictions.

The scheme will be COVID smart, as well as COVID safe, so people are urged to continue following rules and restrictions.

The news is great for all in New South Wales and Karryon would love to see its travel industry legends planning some fun and uplifting #togetherintravel events off the back of the ‘Out and About’ voucher initive.

Although the vouchers cannot be combined, you could still get a group together and take it in turns to use your vouchers to reduce the total bill for dinners, drinks, coffees, cake, a theme park experience, art expo, dance show, or cinema trip.

We can’t wait to see your photos and hear how you’ll be using your vouchers to reconnect with your friends and colleagues.
