Things are (re) developing fast up on the sunny Gold Coast, with Pacific Fair putting the finishing touches on its epic $670 million transformation to create the largest – and coolest – shopping centre in Queensland.

Eager to check out the massive redevelopment of such a Gold Coast institution in person, KarryOn ventured north for 48 hours for a sneak peek look at Pacific Fair’s new face of retail grandeur – and boy are our credit cards buzzing!

But before talking retail, let’s talk a little hotel, because it’s not just Pacific Fair that’s been made over up on the Gold Coast.

Jupiters Hotel & Casino in Broadbeach has also recently undergone a transformation of epic proportions that’s set to be a boost to tourism in the Gold Coast.

The $345 million investment, spearheaded by The Star Entertainment Group, will see the iconic tourism landmark rebranded to The Star Gold Coast later this year, with the aim of turning it into a world-class integrated resort that’s up there with the best of them.

In order to make these dreams a reality, the hotel has recently opened a slew of new world-class dining options for guests to enjoy – including Kiyomi (Japanese), Cucina Vivo (Italian) and Garden Kitchen & Bar (open space and outdoor dining at its finest).

These new dining experiences give guests a whole new world of culinary choice all under the one roof.

A new poolside experience has also been included in the redevelopment, which is the perfect end (or start) to a day spent exploring chic Broadbeach or trying your luck at the casino.

But most importantly for the travel industry, the million dollar redevelopment has fuelled a complete refurbishment of the hotel’s almost 600 rooms – including its executive rooms – as well as the introduction of a new world-class Penthouse, Deluxe Executive Rooms, and lavish suites that offer unparalleled views and deluxe comfort.

Boy, this suite is sweet-as!

In sum, the refurbishment has been designed with comfort, relaxation and convenience in mind, with the rooms boasting fully integrated technology including multiple USB ports, high speed broadband internet and zone control – affording guests the opportunity to customise lighting, drapery, temperature and service preferences.

In the bathrooms, exclusive amenities by leading international brand L’OCCITANE seal the deal.

But let’s get back to the shopping!!!

Pacific Fair’s $670 million redevelopment (which began on 13 January 2014) is in its final stages, with David Jones, H&M and UNIQLO opening on 5 May.

The opening of these stores adds these three retail fashion brands to Pacific Fair’s impressive range of 20 other speciality retail stores, including Bed Bath N Table, Camilla, Dion Lee, Kate Spade, Kit and Ace, L’Occitane, MIMCO, Seed, Superdry, TUMI and UGG Australia – just to name a few!

The centre – which will increase in size by approximately 50,000 square metres of Gross Lettable Area, taking the centre to a total of approximately 150,000 square metres – will also feature a unique mix of international high street brands, luxury retailers and Australian designers plus premium tourism services, personalised experiences and fine dining options.

When finished, Pacific Fair will boast over 400 speciality stores.

As the fastest growing region in Australia, the Gold Coast continues to rapidly attract new residents driven by the area’s lifestyle, climate and opportunities.

The Gold Coast is also a tourism mecca, attracting more than 12 million visitors per year, which gives Pacific Fair retailers the opportunity to be exposed to shoppers from all over the world.

The redevelopment is set to be completed by mid-2016 (that’s coming soon folks!) and will turn Pacific Fair into the fourth largest shopping centre in Australia.

So, will you be taking one or two credit cards on your next trip to the Gold Coast?
