SKIPPY INVASION: Kangaroos crowding around Australia's capital city

Australians and tourists are being given an incredible opportunity to see groups of kangaroos 'hopping' about their business just minutes outside one of the country's major cities, Canberra.

Australians and tourists are being given an incredible opportunity to see groups of kangaroos ‘hopping’ about their business just minutes outside one of the country’s major cities, Canberra.

Canberra’s suburban area of Ainslie was nearly taken over by around 20 marsupials late last week, who were casually jumping across the road and standing in people’s lawns.

A witness of the kangaroo invasion wrote on News.com.au that although the sight of kangaroos in the suburbs is odd, it isn’t completely foreign to the area.

She said that kangaroos can appear just outside of Canberra at any time as the ACT is home to some tens of thousands of the furry creatures.

“Especially in times of dry weather, those marsupials come hopping right into town — onto our football ovals, down our suburban streets and right into our backyards.”

Can you imagine walking into your yard and bam, a kangaroo is staring right at you? Pretty cool.

For tourists keen to spot a ‘roo or two on their next trip to Canberra, locals say they can be found in Ainslie, Tuggeranong, Woden or Gungahlin, and even at the oval in front of Royal Australian Mint where they hang “all day, every day”.

But be smart, don’t try approaching or touching them. Just get your picture (no flash and from afar) and leave them in peace.
