You may stretch the budget a bit booking a hotel room night in this US state but ask any Aussie who’s visited in the past few years and they’ll say it’s worth the extra dollars.
It’s the Aloha state of Hawaii, which led the US market with the highest average daily room rate (ADR) and revenue per available room (RevPAR) during the first three months of 2018.
According to figures released by the Hawaii Tourism Authority, travellers were paying an average of US$293 per night during the first quarter, up 8.9 percent on the same period last year.

This rise in overnight rates made Hawaii the priciest state for overnight stays from January to March, followed by the city of Miami at $216 and San Francisco at $181.
Outside the US, Hawaii’s Maui County had the fourth highest ADR at $431 per night, after the Maldives ($809), French Polynesia ($507) and Cabo San Lucas ($446).

While Hawaii may be on the priciest for accommodation, the state’s Director of Tourism Research, Jennifer Chun, says it’s worth the extra spend for a chance to experience a “premier, aspirational destination”.
“Hawai’i’s hotels compete very well against other exotic, tropical destination.”
Jennifer Chun, Hawaii Tourism Authority Director of Tourism Research
She continued, saying the state has a diverse range of hotel products on offer, from a Disney hotel to property with a cocktail hotline.
“[There’s also a] range of price points to match travellers’ spending capability,” Chun added.
Hawaii Tourism Authority also found the island’s properties were the third fullest in the US, with 82.9 percent occupancy, slightly behind Florida’s Miami and Orlando.
