Time for Tahiti: The Islands are now open for all

The Islands of Tahiti opened to all international travellers on 1 August 2022 with no restrictions for unvaccinated visitors and zero requirements for pre-testing before arrival, regardless of the country or area of origin.

Some caveats do remain: travellers to French Polynesia with a stopover or transit in the States must comply with US entry requirements and while transit passengers in New Zealand do not require proof of vaccination, travellers who stay in New Zealand on their way to French Polynesia must comply with the entry requirements of NZ authorities.

Tahiti has been open to vaccinated Aussies since mid-2021, however the usual route via Auckland was closed and travellers had to travel a much longer route via Hawaii or Los Angeles.

National flag carrier Air Tahiti Nui restarted flights on 3 July 2022 with Air New Zealand following with flights to Papeete from 6 July 2022 after testing requirements were scrapped for travellers heading to Tahiti via Auckland.
