Tourists may want to save a little extra for their next camping trip around New Zealand because the country’s tourism leaders are looking to double an overnight fee.
According to The Guardian, Tourism New Zealand is planning to double the amount visitors pay when they use huts or camp along the country’s ‘great walks’.
Among the ‘great walks’ are the Milford Track where locals pay $70 per night and tourists could soon pay $140 per night and the Kepler which costs around $65 per night for Kiwis and may rise to $130 per night for foreigners.

New Zealand’s Conservation Minister, Eugenie Sage, said the money raised through increased fees would be used to maintain the walks.
“New Zealand’s nine great walks are premier tracks that pass through unique and spectacular scenery and are a magnet for international visitors.”

Increased fees will be trialed for a period of seven months from October this year.
“It is also part of setting and maintaining a fair pricing system for New Zealanders,” Sage added.
