TRAVEL AGENTS, you're crucial to getting more Aussies across to New Zealand

If you ask Tourism New Zealand’s new local leader how he plans to increase the number of Aussies visiting New Zealand every year, he’ll tell you it’s working with Travel Agents.

If you ask Tourism New Zealand’s new local leader how he plans to increase the number of Aussies visiting New Zealand every year, he’ll tell you it’s working with Travel Agents.

That’s exactly the response KARRYON received during a recent Q&A, when Tourism New Zealand’s new General Manager for Australia, Andrew Waddel described consultants as “crucial” to the ongoing success of trans-Tasman travel.

He said that although Australians love visiting New Zealand, and will do so on multiple occasions throughout their lifetime, he sees an opportunity to expand their destination choice. Something Agents are vital to achieving.

Andrew Waddel describes Agents are crucial to increasing trans-Tasman travel.

In his recently appointed position, he aims to work with consultants to ensure Australians are finding activities, locations and experiences across New Zealand “that suit their desire to travel”.

“From sightseeing Cape Reinga’s lighthouse where the Tasman Sea meets the Pacific Ocean, to seeing the Aurora Australis or the Southern Lights in Stewart Island – there’s so much to see and do in New Zealand.”

“I get excited just thinking about it. However, this is also the challenge, how do you showcase this variety and create a sense of urgency when it’s so close.”

With over half of all Australian bookings across the Tasman made through Travel Agents, Andrew said it’s important that trade is aware of the travel options in New Zealand and equipped with the right knowledge to book clients exactly what they want, “not just once, but multiple times”.

“With the ever-evolving travel industry, customers are looking for the unique experiences that the online world is not able to provide.”
