Unvaccinated travellers can travel to Tasmania from 26 February

Travellers entering Tasmania will no longer have to prove their coronavirus vaccination status, as of this weekend.

Travellers entering Tasmania will no longer have to prove their coronavirus vaccination status, as of this weekend.

The change, which means unvaccinated people no longer need to obtain pre-travel approval and quarantine upon arrival, will be in force from 12.01am on Saturday.

“There will no longer be any requirements for entry to Tasmania regardless of vaccination status,” Premier Peter Gutwein said on Wednesday.

“Around the country there have been some changes to border restrictions and we’re going to bring ourselves in line as well.

“Maintaining arrival conditions for unvaccinated travellers is now disproportionate to the risk,” he said.

Tasmania opened its borders to all fully vaccinated travellers from mainland Australia on December 15.

Mr Gutwein said the requirement to present vaccination status at pubs, clubs and other settings would also be scrapped from Saturday.

Check-ins are still required at pubs, clubs and casinos, despite the measure being wound back for a host of locations last week.

Mr Gutwein said the state’s mask mandate for indoor venues would be reviewed in the coming weeks.

The state is keeping vaccination and testing requirements in place for people holidaying on cruise ships.

Tasmania’s daily virus case figure has been in the 800s the past two days, following 569 on Monday.
