Group famils usually offer a one-size-fits-all trip but not all travellers are the same, so why go on the same holiday? That’s why South African Tourism created the Sawubona Self-Famil program that allows advisors to curate their own itineraries and share them with their travel compadre of choice.

‘Sawubona’ is a Zulu greeting that means “We see you”. It’s the personal touch that makes your Self-Famil trip perfect for you.

“When you experience somewhere soul-stirring like South Africa, the natural inclination is to want to share it with someone special,” Acting Hub Head South African Tourism Australasia Yana Shvarts said.

“It’s the greatest lament we hear when hosting group famils. This Self-Famil program gives advisors the opportunity to do just that and share their tailored trip with a special someone.”

Here’s how to get your South Africa Self-Famil off the page and on the road in two steps:

Step 1: Select your stay

Partnering with more than 35 distinctive properties around the country from luxury safari lodges to vibrant city hotels, South African Tourism has secured complimentary nights and discounted rates, exclusively available to travel advisors and their plus-ones.

And the accommodation options are just astounding. You can spot the Big 5 animals on safari at the luxe Sabi Sands in the Greater Kruger or from a treehouse suite at Jaci’s Lodges in Madikwe Game Reserve.

Venture into the Kalahari Desert with a stay at Tswalu Kalahari Reserve, experience Cape Town’s most luxurious properties with views of the iconic Table Mountain or opt to enjoy some of the world’s best wine in the spectacular Cape Winelands. There are just so many amazing ways to stay in South Africa.

Step 2: Tailor your trip
