Why are more Aussies visiting Canada? It is the stunning scenery? The breathtaking cruising routes? The proximity to the US? Or is it because it's home to the world's friendliest people?

Why are more Aussies visiting Canada? It is the stunning scenery? The breathtaking cruising routes? The proximity to the US? Or is it because it’s home to the world’s friendliest people?

Well, according to Rocky Mountaineer’s VP of Global Sales, the main reason is none of the above.

The company, which experienced record sales last year, found Australians are booking more holidays to Canada, specifically Rocky Mountaineer trips, to see the country’s bears.

Speaking to KarryOn Karen Hardie said Aussies are bear ‘crazy’ and keen to see The Great White North’s grizzly and black species.

“Aussies are crazy for bears and snow.”

“Snow can be see atop the mountain peaks until June in Canada.”

But of course, while bears may be a key draw card, they’re not the only reason.

Hardie said of course Aussies are also keen to experience the country’s history, scenery, amazing food as well as Rocky Mountaineer’s high-end service.

“It’s a natural fit for Aussies, who hold the reputation of being great fun on the train,” she said.

Last year, Rocky Mountaineer welcomed double digit growth out of the APAC region, with the majority of bookings coming from the Australian market.

Hardie says Aussies like to travel on the company’s GoldLeaf Service, which offers ‘value luxury’.

Building on the popular service, next year the company will remove all of its Red Leaf service, leaving its trains with just SilverLeaf and GoldLeaf.
