This week’s shooting at a famed museum in Tunisia has gained worldwide support from travellers saying they won’t be deterred by the siege.

The country’s Prime Minister announced that 17 tourists were killed by two gunmen in Bardo National Museum in Tunisia’s capital Tunis.

The men shot at a group of tourists as they exited a bus. They then followed the survivors into the museum where the attack continued.

Among the dead is 28-year-old Sydney resident, Javier Camelo and his mother Miriam Martinez, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Joined by his father, José Arturo, the family were on holidays celebrating the completion of Javier’s studies. He has just graduated from university with an MBA.

The trio were on a Mediterranean cruise when their ship docked in Tunisia on Tuesday.

There they decided to visit the family.

Also among the victims was five Japanese, four Italians, two Colombians and two Spaniards.

22 others were injured.

Prime Minister Habid Essid said in a public address he believes the event was an act of terrorism to hurt the country’s tourism industry.

Currently, Tunisia welcomes around six million international visitors travel that spend around 30 million nights.

A large number of tourists come from Eastern Europe, however, Libyans are the number one market followed by the French, Algerians, Germans, Italians and British.

However, despite the attack, travellers have taken to social media to showcase their support.

Similarly to the hashtag #illridewithyou, which started trending after the Sydney siege, travellers are using the hashtag #JeSuisBardo with a picture saying they will travel to Tunisia next summer.
