As the world is opening up and tourism operators are busy getting back to business, Contiki Holidays is lighting the way forward for the travel industry with the announcement it has achieved carbon neutrality, following its Climate Action Plan launched on Earth Day in April 2021.
Contiki says it recognises the need for both travellers and travel businesses to take action on climate change and address its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which is why all Contiki trips from 2022 will be carbon neutral trips.
And what’s even better is the fact that travellers won’t need to reach into their own pockets to fund the carbon credits: the cost to offset every trip is being covered by Contiki.
“Contiki trips are intelligently designed to be 100% carbon neutral but sacrifice none of the fun or wonderful experiences to achieve this,” says Tasha Hayes, Contiki’s Sustainability Officer.
“We know that sustainability is incredibly important to our travellers but so is a complete travel experience and having a great time.”
Becoming carbon-neutral is a goal in Contiki’s five-point Climate Action Plan, part of The Travel Corporation’s sustainability strategy, How We Tread Right.
The plan also sees Contiki committed to sourcing 50 per cent of electricity from renewable sources by 2025.
Since the launch of its first sustainability strategy in 2015, Contiki has invested in energy conservation and worked to actively reduce its environmental impact.
To reflect a brighter future for travel, Contiki has also launched a bold evolution of its brand identity.
Simon Llanos, Contiki’s CMO, says the energetic new look and feel is an expression of Contiki’s values.
