Cathay Pacific is back to full capacity between Sydney and Hong Kong. Commencing today, the airline will operate four daily flights between Australia’s busiest hub, Sydney Airport, and Hong Kong International Airport, which returns frequency between the ports to pre-pandemic levels.

Using its A350 aircraft, Cathay will offer 334 seats on the new service, including 46 lie-flat business class, 32 premium economy and 256 economy seats.

The carrier says rising demand for international travel has prompted the Sydney boost, which joins recent capacity upgrades for Brisbane and Perth.

Overall, the Cathay Group expects to operate around 70 per cent of its pre-pandemic passenger flight capacity by the end of 2023.

The new SYD-HKG flight (CX162) will depart Sydney at 10.55 and arrive in Hong Kong at 17.10, with the return flight (CX161) leaving HK at 21.20 and touching down in Sydney at 09.35 (+1).

“We’re thrilled to resume pre-pandemic frequency of passenger flights between Sydney and Hong Kong,” Cathay Pacific Regional General Manager of Southwest Pacific, Frosti Lau said, as the carrier marks 49 years of flying between Hong Kong and Sydney.

“We have a longstanding commitment to the Sydney market, and this service reaffirms our dedication to continuing to restore capacity and connectivity across the Cathay Pacific network.”
