Virgin Australia’s pop-up Velocity Frequent Flyer 1 Point Rewards Store in Melbourne sold out in just five hours, thanks to the airline’s new 1 Point Rewards redeemable on VA flights and heaps of household items.

VA’s first-ever 1 Point Rewards Store on Chapel Street saw hundreds of Melburnians line up over five blocks with more than 1,000 Rewards redeemed for just one single Velocity Point.

The store, due to stay open for 24 hours, sold out by 2:30pm on Saturday 10 June ahead of the official online launch on 11 June 2023.

VA’s Velocity Frequent Flyer program announced a series of changes last week, including the 1 Point Rewards initiative and a reduction in the Points required to redeem a Virgin Australia domestic flight.

The program now has the lowest lead-in domestic redemption airfares compared to any other Australian airline (taxes, fees and carrier charges apply in addition to Reward Seat pricing).

Melburnian members were keen to bag a bargain.

Velocity Frequent Flyer CEO Nick Rohrlach thanked Melburnians for coming out, noting that some members camped overnight to be the first in the country to experience 1 Point Rewards.

“There are millions of Velocity members based in Victoria, so it made sense to choose Melbourne to launch this Velocity-first initiative knowing how much they love to travel,” he said.

Members can redeem domestic VA flights for just 1 Point.

“Beyond 1 Point Rewards, we’ve also reduced the number of Points required for a lead-in Virgin Australia Reward Seat and we’ve dropped an extra one million Rewards Seats, helping our members get to their rewards faster.”
