FULLY open! Fiji drops last travel restrictions

In yet another win for tourism in Fiji, international travellers will no longer need to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination and travel insurance when arriving in the country.

In yet another win for tourism in Fiji, international travellers will no longer need to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination and travel insurance when arriving in the country.

The last of Fiji’s pandemic-related travel restrictions was removed yesterday (14 February) based on the advice of the country’s COVID-19 Risk Mitigation Taskforce (CRMT), who carefully considered the global and national COVID-19 situation, a statement issued by Fiji’s Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation said.

The move applies to all air and sea arrivals.

Until yesterday, everyone aged over 16 years needed to show proof of full vaccination and insurance covering COVID-19.

Fiji’s Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) reported that 100 per cent of the country’s adult population have received one COVID-19 vaccination while 95 per cent have received two doses.

The MHMS added that the first dosage rate for those aged 12 years and above was 99 per cent while the second dosage rate was 89 per cent. As of 8 February, over half (54.6 per cent) of the population had received their third vaccination.

Consequently, COVID hospitalisation cases remain low, said the MHMS.

Therefore, the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation said that “consistent with the experience in other countries with high vaccination rates, Fiji will no longer have any COVID-19 related border health measures”.

According to the Ministry, Fiji’s border authorities will “continue to review border health measures and maintain community surveillance for early warning of future threats while fostering socio-economic recovery”.

International arrivals in Fiji reached more than 70 per cent of 2019 levels (636,312) in 2022, with a “strong forecast” for the first quarter of 2023.

In January, Tourism Fiji launched its new global brand platform and logo.
