Indonesia’s flag carrier Garuda Indonesia will resume its twice-weekly direct Jakarta-Melbourne flights from 23 November 2022 to meet the market demand for international corporate and leisure travel, particularly in Australia.
Garuda resumed non-stop flights from Sydney to Bali on 4 March after international travel restrictions were lifted.
With Jakarta as a hub, the route allows Melbourne travellers to access seamless connections to other popular Indonesian destinations such as Bali (Denpasar), Yogyakarta, Lombok, Kualanamu and Surabaya.
Garuda Indonesia President & CEO Irfan Setiaputra said: “The reopening of the Melbourne service is one of Garuda Indonesia’s efforts to optimise the momentum of the national economic recovery, especially through the tourism sector.”
Melbourne Airport Chief of Aviation Jim Parashos said: “Indonesia is a priority market for Melbourne Airport. The resumption of Garuda Indonesia services to Jakarta and onward to Bali will give the opportunity for Victorians to explore and enjoy more Indonesian destinations.”
Garuda Indonesia will operate the Melbourne-Jakarta service using an Airbus A330-300 aircraft, departing Melbourne on Thursdays and Saturdays.
From 1 November, Garuda will provide weekly flights between Sydney and Bali, increasing to twice-weekly flights from 3 December 2022. It will also operate twice-weekly flights from Sydney to Jakarta from 1 November.
